Bethel began as a gathering of a few Christian Asian immigrant families. As their children immersed in the Canadian culture, and as non-Chinese speaking people joined the church, an English speaking congregation was born. Today, we have a group that interacts in Cantonese, one in Mandarin, and one in English.
As Christians, we believe the Creator God of the universe who made us wants a relationship with us. We believe when we live out his values of love, forgiveness, mercy and justice in the world, with his help, we can be blessings to the people around us.
We came up with this mission statement:
We are a community trying to figure out what it means to be created to love God, each other and humanity. We seek to become like Jesus, our fitting response and tribute to his life, death and resurrection - God’s extravagant love-gift to us. We worship God by how we live - following His Holy Spirit, loving and welcoming like Jesus, caring for Creation. Through facing our struggles and shortcomings together – hoping, coping, and celebrating together - we believe we can live life meaningfully as God meant for us to live, and we will be changed in our relationship with God and each other.
We
write mission statements better than we live it. But we keep trying.
